Saturday saw the Seconds take on Pembroke in Sandymount, batting first on a poor wicket the Seconds could only manage 99 all out due to a combination of rustiness, poor shot selection and impatience. The bowling was marginally better with Mark Ingamells, Liam and Duncan,Joseph amongst the wickets. Pembroke made the total required for the loss of 6 wickets.
Sunday saw the Thirds take on Sandyford 4ths in Marlay Park in weather probably more suitable for a combination of Rugby/Snorkling. bowling first Liam and Mark Jinglebells had Sandyford in trouble at 10 for 2 but after their skipper was run out on a no-ball and then reprieved in the spirit of the game he then proceeded to hit our attack to all parts of the ground with the help of his curiously named batting partner "Chunky" both made fiftys and with the ball starting to resemble a bar of Imperial Leather yours truly even tried to take 2 catches although probably not in the Leinster Umpiring manual. Our junior bowlers in particular suffered with the wet ball and a total of 245ish for 6 was always going to be a bridge too far. Liam,Jack,Joe and Kamran stayed around for a while and along with extras helped us to a final total of 160ish all out. Roll on 2010. The first's match on Sunday away to Halverstown was called off due to a unplayable pitch. We play our final league match away to Sandyford on Sunday 20th September and any support would be welcome as we hope to celebrate the club's first league trophy since 199?......
